Synopsis

Published in 1957, "Atlas Shrugged" was Ayn Rand's greatest achievement and last work of fiction. In this novel, she dramatizes her unique philosophy through an intellectual mystery story that integrates ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, politics, economics, and sex. Set in a near-future U.S.A. whose economy is collapsing as a result of the mysterious disappearance of leading innovators and industrialists, this novel presents an astounding panorama of human life - from the productive genius who becomes a worthless playboy to the great steel industrialist who does not know that he is working for his own destruction to the philosopher who becomes a pirate to the woman who runs a transcontinental railroad to the lowest track worker in her train tunnels.

Rechte Ikone?

Regardless the content of the book, the printing quality is so bad. The size is quite small (smaller than A5), font size is around 8!!! The paper is very thin ( I can see through the next page). That’s reason why 1000 pages costs only 6,9€

This is Ayn's Magnus Opera, it oulines her philosophical believes (objectivism) . Even if sometimes it is more a philosophical statement than a novel, this is a book that all politicians and all the people who have the right to vote should read. the book is now and then a bit boring / hard to read, but it is totally worth it! It is not money who is the root of evil, and the reader will understand what real capitalism is. The only thing i did not like about this book is the (now and then) obsessive repetition of the same ideas.Somehow her ideas are a bit exaggerated, if you are an altruistic person, you might not like a few of her concepts, i.e. that a person has a right to earn money for his work and not give any part away for the benefit of others. But still, 5 stars!

This book will blow your mind. The compelling plot, the perfectly developed characters and the flawless, smooth writing make it hard to put it down. I recommend it wholeheartedly to everyone who loves a good read with a lot of meaning behind it. A good fit for all the lovers of politics and philosophy.

There is not much more you can add about this book with the number of reviews listed here. Ayn Rand has taken her philosophical system she called Objectivism and presented it though a fictional story. For a work of literary fiction at 1,088 pages (mass market edition) , it was not an "easy" read, but once you got into the "flow" of the story you wonder why this book never reached bestseller status at the end of the 1950's.Yes, this book in some respects is controversial and subject of much debate. Some see that we are heading towards a dystopian United States (or World) similar to the setting in this plot and think this book reflects the reasons for it. Rand's point in stated in simple terms - Capitalism good - Socialism bad! In some respects, it may be somewhat dated because of the 1950's industrial settings, but that does not affect the overall plot and thesis. I originally read this book as a work of science fiction. However, the elements s of science fiction does not appear until the end when the characters are at the "hideaway".This book is required reading for all "Libertarians". However, I recommend it for all readers who want to expand their intellectual understanding of other philosophical & economical viewpoints and reasoning.

It is nice to get all three parts in one book, but the letters are super tiny and it's very hard to read. Not recommended for people with vision problems or with eyes, which get tired quite fast.

Das Buch ist sowohl von der Story an sich fesselnd, als auch wenn man isch eingehender mit der dahinterliegenden wirtschaftlichen Weltanschauung des Objektivismus auseinandersetzt

Ayn Rand explains what drives the world's econoy. To much redistribution of income an wealth stops the econoy. Without difference the is no effort.
